Correlation between the Serologic and Histological Index in Chronic Hepatitis

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to reassess the diagnosis of chornic hepatitis asviral natural history for evaluation of its prognosis. Subjects were selected from 161 cases of HBs Ag or anti-HCV antibody serum positive
patients from April, 1991 to
Aug,
1992. We make a comparative study of histomorphological socring index with HBs Ag distributed pattern in chronic hepatitis and serological AST/ALT patterns. Chronic persistent hepatitis shows mostly scattered HBs Ags, which is well worthy
supporting the
diagnosis of CPH in equivocal cases, though it is interchangeable to active or lobular hepatitis in viral clearance phase. Some moderate to severe chronic active hepatitis with bridging necrosis reveals grouped HBs Ags representing monoclonality,
which
is suggested that it lies in partially residual integrated phase and then it is crucial for determining the outcome of HBs Ag carrier. On the other hand, C-typed hepatitis have the characteristics of asymmetrical portal and periportal lymphoid
inflammation, sinusoidal cells activation and frequent acidophilic bodies, acidophilic changes of hepatocytes. Especially, it is important that the acidophilic body and hepatocytes seem not to be in close contact with lymphocytes due to viral
direct
cytotoxic effects.
